The social structure and landscape of the USA has changed.
Many, many women have become equal to men in the workplace.
The mating game has not changed at all. Those same women are finding it tougher and tougher to find any man who is available that makes a lot more money than they do, and can "take care of them", which in summary, is just about the "entry level" point for men into being taken seriously about a relationship and/or marriage by the vast majority of women.
